Your college education is one of the most important investments you can make in yourself. At the University of Rochester, we’re committed to helping students meet their financial needs. We do this through a variety of financial aid options.
The University of Rochester is committed to using the Principles & Standards of the College Cost Transparency Initiative in its student financial aid offers. The financial aid offer will be available in our FAOnline portal for students to view. Once a student’s financial aid award has been generated, an e-mail will be sent to the student’s email address, stating the award is available to be viewed.
Students may see their need-based aid change between years for a variety of reasons. Those reasons aren’t always clear to students, so we’ve put together a video that explains the broader trends behind financial aid and what to expect year to year as well as some common reasons you may see a change.
Beginning with the 2024-2025 FAFSA, a variety of changes have been implemented to the FAFSA filing process and the determination of federal aid eligibility. These changes are collectively known as “FAFSA Simplification”. We encourage all students applying for federal financial aid to review our webpage of information and resources regarding FAFSA Simplification.
The application deadline for returning students for the 2024–2025 academic year was March 15, 2024*. Instructions will be emailed to students beginning in the late fall semester, and reminders will continue to be sent bi-weekly to those students with incomplete applications.
Returning undergraduates who did not submit their application with all supporting documentation by this deadline are not guaranteed full consideration for need-based University grant assistance and may have their institutional aid reduced due to limited funding.

*Due to the delay in delivery of 2024-2025 FAFSAs, the deadline for submission of the FAFSA was extended to April 15, 2024.
Select undergraduate students are required to submit additional paperwork the College Board’s IDOC service. If you’re required to submit your application via IDOC, you should send all required paper documents directly to the College Board and not the Financial Aid Office. Instructions can be found by logging in to your FAOnline account and reviewing the Required Document screen. If you have questions, please contact your financial aid counselor.
